2008 CDPH Skateboard Design Art Contest

From April 22nd – May 12th, 2008, the California Department of Public Health, Immunization Branch sponsored a Skateboard Design Art Contest. College students throughout California designed skateboard decks as part of a vaccination awareness campaign targeting UC Berkeley students. The event is scheduled for August 2008 and will follow the theme: “Call Your Own Shots: Get Vaccinated!” The goal of the campaign is to encourage college students to get vaccinated against harmful diseases, including meningitis, influenza (flu) and others.
 
The Immunization Branch received over twenty entries for the contest from students throughout the State. Three winners were selected by a judging panel consisting of staff from the Immunization Branch, UC Berkeley, City of Berkeley Health Department, the National Meningitis Association and the Vaccines for Children program. All winners received:

- A gift card to Apple: 1st Place: $500; 2nd Place: $250; 3rd Place: $100
- A finished skateboard deck with their original design
- Recognition from the CDPH, Immunization Branch
- An invitation to attend the UC Berkeley event in August
